Jamie Oliver

I haven't had time to blog even though I've been wanting to. We were so happy to have our good friends Todd & Ina here for several days. We were so busy relaxing, cooking, eating & catching up that I didn't take one single photo. Luckily they will be back & I can change my slacker ways!

I really enjoyed this blog post about chef Jamie Oliver. He's busy trying to change the way our schools feed our children. I could go on about this subject, but I won't. I'll leave you with this little bit of advice. Eat real food. Cook in your own kitchen. It's really not so hard & actually very enjoyable!

Kylie HATES the school food so takes cold lunch every day. Sad that they don't care about what they serve the kids

My neighbor was telling me about him. He was on TV a few weeks ago I guess. Soy bugers just didn't cut it when I was in school (and yes that was in the 70's) sure they don't taste any better no a days.

I've seen several people blogging about Jamie lately - I'll have to check it out. I have recently started cooking healthier and with more of my own "natural" ingredients - ie, make my own ckn stock for soups. I'm starting with baby steps then one day I might be the "fruit cake" I used to roll my eyes at. ;) Life is a process isn't it. ;)

Kristen - you'll be a granola cruncher & proud of it. ha!

I know, Mindy, I know! ;) I think it has to do with age and thinking "hummm...I'd really like to be around and HEALTHY for my kids as they grow...most importantly, I want THEM to be healthy". Funny how our prospective changes when we become parents - even it it's 4 years later! ;) RE: you comment about having lots of pictures of the kids up - nope. I'm ashamed to admit that. It's like the plummer who has leaky faucets, the electrician who only half of his outlets work - the photographer has no photos of her children actually printed. What a concept! ;) I keep telling myself I've GOT to do it but...you know how life is.

*excuse me while I go crunch on my organic, free range, bps free(or whatever) granola. I shall NOT use a mircowave as it just might kill me. Nor will I use my non-stick cookware as it may cause me to develop Alzheimers (now, ummm...I actually have pretty much stopped using my microwave and started using stainless steel cookware) ;)

Yes - we do change as we age. Mindy's diet used to consist of pepsi, string cheese, and skor candy bars.
I have changed some as well. I'm enjoying the nice weather and being able to easily and quickly prepare fresh meats and veggies on the grill. Salmon patties, grass fed sirloin, and organic free range chicken is on our dinner menu this week!

mindy...new salmon recipe in 'a homemade life' that is amazing.

2 cups apple cider (i used tj's spiced)
1 shallot, peeled and quartered
1 TBS butter

Put the above in a large skillet and simmer for 10 minutes. remove shallot. put salmon (i used a big fillet that i cut into 5 pieces) in pan and poach until done. remove and set aside. simmer the liquid until reduced by 1/2 and then whisk in 1/4 - 1/2 cup heavy cream. whisk until caramel colored. spoon over the top of the salmon and inhale.

the recipe called for 1/2 cup cream and i only had 1/4. i can't imagine why you'd need more...the sauce was delicious as it was.
