This is the absolute worst time of year in the Mid-West. You look outside and it seems as if nothing will ever grow & bloom again. Everything feels dirty. Too make things worse our hot tub still isn't fixed! How dependent we've become!
Another thing annoying about this time of year? The people hogging up floor space at my workout class. Yeah, I'm talking to you sweating, annoying lady who walks right across my yoga mats.
I've decided to start eating out of our freezer more & guess what? It's saving us $25-$50 per week! The bad news is that our beef & garden veggies aren't going to last as long as usual. That means we must plant more this spring & 1/4 of a cow just isn't enough for us anymore. It doesn't help that we have no venison in the freezer. Proof that it's not a good idea to let the small ones pass while waiting for a wall trophy. Wall trophies don't feed the family!
This one? She's growing way too fast. I don't mind the messes, honest. I just want to put time in slow motion right now. I love this age. She's starting to talk so much. She has her little sense of humor. What a fun time we're having with our little bug!
The other ones? They are doing well. My big school kids that are gone all day. Hard to believe it but they will soon be six & eight! I realize that the beginning of this post is a bit sarcastic& negative, but really I have so much to be thankful for. I only hope and pray that we will be guided from above as we raise our little family. I'm beginning to realize that it doesn't get easier as time goes on. I'm thankful for friends who have been there, done that. I'm sure I'll be picking your brain as time goes on!

this last year was a bad year for deer. Or should I say bad for the hunters. Justin only got one deer but thinks that we'll only get about 25 lbs of ground venison out of it. That won't last us long. We need to do a bigger garden too. 2 years ago my green beans went crazy so we will be eating those for the next 2-3 years I'm sure.
I'm glad that canning is so easy. a good way to save food. i don't freeze much because we don't have the freezer space
amen sister. i hate this time of year at the gym. gross nasty grunting and groaning out of shape resolutioners out to lose 10 pounds in two days. i mean...good for them. why wait until january to sign up EVERY YEAR?? ah well...at least the crowd will have thinned (ha...NOT) out by the end of february.
i know & isn't it just common sense that you don't walk your sweaty self over someone else's mat, you don't talk out loud during relaxation & you don't ask someone to move down so that the person they are saving a place for can see themselves in the mirror if & when they get there????!!! i tell ya, i was peeved & thinking mean thoughts!
Those big wall hangers don't taste as good as Bambi. Good year for us hunting, the last couple days Doug, Ray & Kara went (bow & muzzleloader) they saw 40 deer. Didn't get close enough for a bow, and Kara missed one day and the gun misfired the next!!
Tell Craig that Kerry (we) are enjoying our hot tub. Come over and use it anytime. Maybe that's why he got free??? As for kids, every stage is fun and yet challenging. I'm thankful we can be guided but I'm thankful for a "stable" man in our home. Nothing better than someone standing behind your thoughts and reasonings - all for good.
A very cute Kaia bug for sure! I am gathering from what I read on blogs that gym goers are very territorial about their machines, spots, and steps,etc.:-) I'll have to be sure to learn the gym ettiquette rules before I sign up or I'll be topic of many blog posts;-)
darla - we're not sure why it froze up. (20 below zero & lots of wind had something to do with it) anyway, the reason it's not working now is that craig tried to put some insulation behind a pipe & he broke the pipe!!!
Yep, Kaia is the cutest little bug! I know I LOVE this age too. They're still babies (kind of) yet they're old enough to have such personality and really know how to interact. I wish I could just freeze time right now! Sorry your hot tub isn't working yet. That stinks. Hope it gets fixed soon!
My guys aren't hunters, so we've never had any venison. My SIL works at Games & Park, & they have a program where you can request and receive one that someone else hunts, so she put our name in. They had an interesting time with processing since they'd never done it before, but got it done so we have some in the freezer, & also jerky curing.
ha..i thought it said "pickling your brain" and so had to re read! anyway..she's certainly a live wire and a keepeer...all i can say is enjoy enjoy enjoy...time has a way of leaping and jumping..ok..well, flying away.
Is she just not the sweetest? Love this picture.
